We recently had a Baby Shower for my daughter. I shared a post about the event and the fun ideas for decorations and activities. I created a Diaper Cake for the Shower and as a gift for the Mom-to-be. I'm both pleased and proud of how it turned out! I viewed several ideas for making diaper cakes and put together a plan for making one. It was very easy and didn't take very long to make it.
This is an easy and fun gift to give a Mom-to-be, and it can also be used as decoration for a Baby Shower!

Disposable Diapers (I used half a box of size 2, 12 to 18 pounds, 112 diapers per box)
Decorative Ribbon
Silk Flowers
Wrapping paper roll
Tulle
Curling Ribbon
Hot Glue

These are the diapers I purchased, I only used half of the box in making this diaper cake.
A few of the decorative items used, a cake board, pink tulle, three different sized ribbons. I layered the ribbons because I liked the look.
I used a tray to line up a few diapers at a time, and placed a cup in the center to help form the circle. A cake pan can be used to help create the layers. There were 28 diapers for the bottom layer, 19 for the middle layer, and 9 for the top layer, 56 diapers in total.
The diapers were lined up with somewhat equal spacing until the desired size for the first layer.
Once the first layer was completely lined up, a ribbon was tied around it to secure it.
The center cup and the diaper cake layer were removed from the tray, then two more layers were made in smaller sizes.
Next, four slits were cut into the empty wrapping paper tube on one end. It was first taped in place then hot glue was used to attach more securely to the cake board.
The first layer was added by carefully positioning it over the paper roll and then sliding it down the tube to the cake board. I decided to use curling ribbon to tie around the layers and secure them, these would be covered up later with wider decorative ribbon.
With wanting to dress up the cake board a length of pink tulle was measured out then folded in half lengthwise, and placed under the diaper layer to see where it should be glued in place.
The first layer was removed and hot glue was used to secure the length of tulle, folding up sections of it while moving along to form a ruffle effect around the cake board. A paper doillie was used over the tulle, then glued in a few spots to secure it in place. The paper doillie didn't show after the first diaper layer was added, but the tulle did.
Three different sized ribbons were used and hot glued securely in the back with a fold to finish it neatly.
It was decided to alternate the direction of the diaper layers for more interest. Just as a personal preference.
All layers complete and added to form the "three layer diaper cake."
I found the perfect stuffed bear to add to the top of the cake. I wrapped crepe paper around the tube and secured the bear to the tube with curling ribbon attached to its neck bow, and also tied a length of curling ribbon around the Bear's feet.
A few flowers, tulle and ribbon dressed up the tube.
I added some flowers to the cake layers, and planned to have the bear hold some balloons at the Baby Shower.
A hair bow attached to the Bear's ear was the final embellishment for the Diaper Cake. These other items were some of the other things I created for the Shower. A pink banner spelling out the baby's name, Chloe! And a couple of the floral centerpieces.
I had fun making the diaper cake and was very pleased with how it turned out! The Mom-to-be enjoyed the fun gift! I hope she will enjoy it on display in the baby's room for a while.
