A Taste of Atlanta

We had a tasty day at "Taste of Atlanta", a day of food and fun!  Always a great event, held annually, with lots of good foods to sample and enjoy, from many new and old restaurants.  We have attended for several years now.  A three day event with ninety restaurants preparing over three hundred delicious bites.  Taste tickets get you tasty tastes of foods and beverages of your choice.  A variety of tastes to satisfy your taste buds and your hunger.

Me and Hubs taking a little break before rounding up more of the good eats, nibbles and tastes!

Our youngest daughter with her very significant other.  We had a great time sharing the experience with the two of them!

This might be thee photo of the day!  Definitely the biggest pretzel I've ever seen!  He did share it with us too.

And, it's always nice when someone offers up their services to take a group photo for us!  We were all feeling quite full at this point and chose sitting for a spell, after enjoying sweets and treats as the finale.

It was tasty day!...

Suwanee Wine Fest

We attended the 2nd Annual Suwanee Wine Fest, presented by Chateau Elan Winery & Resort, at Town Center Park in Suwanee, GA on Saturday.  My Hubby and I, and our youngest daughter along with her very significant other, all met there to attend the wine fest together.  An event not only for the love of wine and tasting wine, but for a good cause since part of the proceeds will benefit Annadale Village, *further explanation on that below.

With hundreds of wines to try, from several different tents, we sipped on samples of many of them but, I must admit I didn't try them all!  Some good eats were also available via a few food vendors, along with a few games out on the lawn, as live music was performed on the stage by a bluegrass/country band called Pullin' Strings.  There were also some t-shirts, and wine goods on sale too.

It was a beautiful sunny day, but a bit chilly with some wind gusts that made it feel even cooler at times to me!  But it was all good.  We discovered a few new wine favorites to look for, and look forward to.  We later finished up the day by having dinner at Ippolito's Italian Restaurant which is right there at the Town Center.  I'll be looking forward to attending next year's event!

*Inside the cover of the pamphlet had the following note:
"[Thank you for drinking wine today to support a good cause!  A portion of Suwanee Wine Fest proceeds will benefit Annandale Village.  Annandale is an award-winning nonprofit organization dedicated to providing life assistance to adults with developmental disabilities and traumatic brain injuries.  Proceeds from the Suwanee Wine Fest will go towards their Fee Assistance Program, which allows them to provide a comprehensive range of programs and services to individuals with financial need.  Keith Fenton, Chief Development & Marketing Officer of Annandale Village, loves calling the City of Suwanee home because, "The citizens believe in our mission and the impact we have on the lives of those with developmental disabilities.  To have the number one rated skilled nursing center in the state of Georgia, right here in Suwanee, speaks volumes to the quality of life for those of us that live, work and play here."]"

A "Golden" Day on the Lake

It was a "Golden" day!

We had a beautiful day on the lake with friends, old and new. It was a fun day, and the pups had a blast!  They did lots of swimming and playing together.  It was a perfect day, and what a perfect place to spend it!  The Host and Hostess live right on the lake and they were so gracious to invite all of us for a wonderful time at their place, along with all of our pups.  A Special "Thank you" to the Host and Hostess, along with our Breeder Hollie, for bringing us all together.  A great time was had by all!  Lots of delicious food brought by everyone to share as we spent the day together with our beloved golden babies, sharing stories, taking photos, enjoying the beautiful surroundings and the gorgeous day that it was!  Enjoy the photos from this memorable occasion.

Concert - Steely Dan - Birthday for Hubby

We attended the Steely Dan Concert last night!  This was a special gift I gave to Hubby for his birthday, which actually is today.  We had a fantastic time!  We are both in agreement in saying this was one of the the best shows we have seen.  We are huge fans of Steely Dan and this was a royal treat for us!  They opened the show playing the entire "Aja" album, which by the way is Marty's favorite of theirs.  We have seen them perform live before, but this was made even better by the songs they played, which included most of our all time favorites, and the seats we had -5th row from the stage!  This was an outdoor event at the Verizon Wireless Ampitheatre at Encore Park in Alpharetta, Georgia.  A perfect evening for a perfect show!  A very memorable birthday gift for Marty!

Ready for an evening with Steely Dan!

Nice seats, close to the stage!

Concert - Eric Clapton

Wow, we certainly enjoyed going to the Eric Clapton concert last night.  I had gotten tickets for this concert back at the end of November to give to Marty as a special present last Christmas.  I also got him an Eric Clapton CD and attached the tickets to the back of it, it was an extra added surprise when he unwrapped the CD gift.  The concert was at the Gwinnett Arena in Duluth, GA.  Located just minutes from us.  It's a smaller, or shall I say, more intimate Arena that holds about 13,000.  We had great seats with a nice view of the stage!  The Wallflowers were the opening performers, lead by guitarist Jakob Dylan(Bob Dylan's son) and they were good.  I enjoyed their time on stage, especially seeing them do "Sixth avenue heartache" and "One head light" live.

Let me tell you the Eric Clapton performance was totally fantastic!  He opened with "Hello old friend", then from there played a variety of his collections and thoroughly entertained the crowd with some awesome rockin' and bluesy sounds!  He is quite the guitarist, and there he was guitar in hand, always playing one type or other.  He played some songs from the unplugged album too, "Layla" and "Tears in Heaven", I must admit during this one I got a little teary eyed myself, and saw that a few others had as well! In light of what the song is about(the death of his son) and a recent personal family loss in my family.  Paul Carrack of the band Squeeze, was on piano for Clapton and performed his '80s hit "Tempted" and also sang lead on a couple others, "How long" and "Ain't it high time we went."  One of our favorite -Our song's- is "Wonderful tonight", and it was a pure joy to be there seeing and hearing it live!

We really enjoyed the concert, and this may have been one of the best we've ever seen, or at least the best we've seen in a long time!  Eric Clapton is a very impressive performer, especially at the age of sixty-seven, well actually he'll be sixty-eight in just a couple of days since he was born on March 30th, 1945.  A Happy 68th Birthday wish to Eric Clapton!  Again, like I said before, very impressive!

This is the last time that we will see a date like this!

Taste of Atlanta

Atlanta's Premier Food Festival

We attended the annual Taste of Atlanta food festival yesterday, this was our third year of tasting. A day of food tasting to sample and experience many of Atlanta's favorite restaurants and chefs. A general admission ticket includes 10 taste coupons to use throughout the event. Most tastings require 2 or 3 coupons, and more tasting coupons can be purchased if needed. VIP ticket purchase includes 15 tasting coupons and provides extras such as, attending hands on cooking classes from top chefs and enjoyment of the Wine, Beer, and Cocktail Experience. There are also some freebie tastes, samples and giveaways too!

Located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta on 5th Street and Spring Street, which are blocked off from regular traffic and allowing only foot traffic.  There are taste booths set up along the streets in front of the businesses and restaurants which are also opened and some have a booth participating.

This event packs a crowd of lots of interesting people, and I must mention that there are also some in various types of dress that provoke thoughts as in, "Oh no she didn't!{gasp!}" and "Oh my, what is he wearing?", and also "There's no way she looked in the mirror before she left the house in that, or did she?" I should have taken a few photos of some of them to share here, my goodness me! All of the sights, sounds, tastes and smells have some senses on overload in more ways than one! All adding to the experience of what has always been a fun day for us!

A few items from the event.
Green Mountain Coffee gave out free samples of coffee with hot and iced coffee cups!   A couple of my favorite restaurants to remember were, The Tin Drum-asia cafe, which had some delicious Crab N Cheese Spring Rolls and Cafe Intermezzo had many delicious dessert treats!   I certainly plan to return and dine at these restaurants in the future.

I've had a Taste of Atlanta!...

Yellow Daisy Festival at Stone Mountain Park

We attended the Stone Mountain Park-Yellow Daisy Festival on Sunday.  An annual Arts and Crafts show that has grown into a four day event, which was held this year from Thursday Sept. 6th through Sunday Sept. 9th.  Much to see ...and eat there!  Live bands performing too!  After enjoying some good festival food we walked through and viewed many a craft booth, also did a little taste testing here and there at some of them.

We finished the last hour by just relaxing in view of the stage while the band Yacht Rock preformed some great tunes!  Yacht Rock is an interesting cover band that has a wide range of songs, a huge variety of artists that they cover, including some of my favorites, Steely Dan, Hall and Oats, and Boz Scaggs.  They are one of the reasons we chose this day to attend!  I'm planning on not missing this festival next year for sure!  There is something there for everyone!  A must see and do if you get the chance!
