Puppy emergency tales!

No April Fools...

We had some major puppy drama and concern over the weekend due to our pup Aeon swallowing a small cloth toy belonging to our Daughter's pup Dallas. We thought it was cute that he had gotten the toy and that Dallas was chasing him for it, but then She and I quickly realized he no longer had it in his mouth.  We looked for the toy to no avail and assumed he had in fact swallowed it!  This happened around 9pm on Saturday evening. We were quite alarmed by this and took him to our Vet emergency.  He never seemed like anything at all was wrong, although we knew he had swallowed the toy. After seeing the Vet and then taking him home, we were hoping during the following twenty-four hours for "nature to take its course" for it to pass on through his system, but it didn't.  It was removed carefully and successfully via endoscopy this morning. All is well now thankfully, and no surgery was required! He will spend the night for observation and come home tomorrow morning.  I know our Daughter feels badly about the whole incident, and thinks it is her fault or something because it was her dog's toy. It's isn't and we really don't want her to feel that way, and have tried to reassure her of that!  Like I had said, we all thought it was cute to watch them in chase over the toy. No one could have foreseen the outcome. It was very unexpected and is now viewed as a learning lesson for us, and it could have been much worse!  We'll have to keep an eye on him and what he gets in his mouth for now, to be safe!  I'm thinking "chow-hound" is going to be a nickname for a while!  Hubs says it should be "Hoover" as in a Hoover vacuum, maybe that is more accurate!
We had planned on going to Greenville to spend our Easter Sunday with the family, all of our kids and grandkids and each of our pups before this happened.  We decided instead it was best to stay closer to the Vet and hospital just in case.  Very special thanks and immense gratitude to our oldest Daughter and Son-in-law for coming here yesterday instead, plus bringing all of the food they had planned to prepare at their house!  We all had a great day in light of the situation with our puppy, and all three pups had a great time too!  Love of family and close hearts make everything all better!

Just home from the Vet after spending the night and having endoscopy to remove the toy from his stomach.  A little shaved area on his left leg from the IV.  He is his usual happy puppy self, but a bit tired.

The infamous toy!
We had described it as not much bigger around than a quarter, and about 3 inches long.

Our Daughter's drawing of what the toy looked like and it's size.

Side by side comparison! Wow, spot on!

Now Aeon has a little bit of a reputation for eating and/or swallowing things, and he will be watched ever so closely from now on!

It's a good thing he is so cute!...;)
