Thoughts Today...Doing what a Parent does!

Planes, trains and automobiles...

...and flowers?!

You can't change the weather, even when you have travel plans!

Due to severe weather in our area Wednesday evening many flights were delayed and cancelled, this affected our Daughter's flight as well.  She had been returning to Greenville, SC with a connecting flight through here at the Atlanta airport.  She phoned around 10 p.m. to ask would we be able come to get her and also take her back in the morning for a connecting flight?  As we headed on our way to pick her up, she called to say, "Never mind thanks, they put me on a later flight."  She sent another message later stating that "The flight was boarding", then immediately sent a message of "Oh no they just cancelled the flight!"  She called shortly after and it was decided she would rent a car, drive to our home, then catch a flight out in the morning.  Her Dad, since he is a pro after many years of experience, coached her over the phone in the quick passage through the Hartsfield Airport terminals  to get a rental car.  By this time it's after midnight.  I fell asleep while waiting to hear from her or hear her arrival at our place, then awoke quite worried as to why she hadn't arrived or phoned yet.  I called her and she explained how she had only been able to rent a mini-van, so she figured driving on to Greenville in the mini-van late at night was preferable to driving in the morning with heavy traffic, so she was driving on to her home.  I was relieved yet still worried for her, especially since she had a couple hours to drive.  She said she didn't want to wake her husband and have him staying awake with worry too.  She assured me that she was fine and wide awake, and would call if she needed me, and that she would let me know when she got home.  Poor thing, she didn't get home until about 4:30 a.m.  I was finally very relieved and able to sleep after I received her message that she was safely home.  This type of travel situation adds to my reasons for no longer liking airports, or to fly!  She phoned later in the morning to thank me for all the help and for staying awake most of night with her.

I received a delivery later in the afternoon of these beautiful flowers sent by my son-in-law.

A huge heartfelt "Thank you" to my thoughtful son-in-law for sending me these lovely flowers, and thanking me for being a great Mom! I appreciate his generosity and it was very sweet of him. I believe I was only doing what a parent does, with my being concerned for and worrying about my child.  Especially if it's the middle of the night and they need me.  No matter what their age, I will always feel that way.

Even when your kids are all grown up you still worry about them, and are always concerned for their safety and well being.

It's what you do as a parent...
