Thoughts and Things - This week...Hummingbirds/Cake & MIL

I love Hummingbirds!  They are beautiful birds, and they're so fascinating and enjoyable to watch.  I really miss them during this time of year because it is too cold here for them.  Even though we do usually have a milder winter than most other areas, we don't have tropical weather during winter either.  I have a few ceramic versions of hummingbirds to keep me attracted for the times when the little beauties are not present and visiting our garden.

One of my favorites on display in my home.

I recently discovered there is a delicious recipe going around social media for Hummingbird Cake.  No! ...it's not made of hummingbirds ...isn't that silly?!  But it does sound delicious from the list of ingredients!

One of my favorite magazines, Southern Living originally ran a recipe for Hummingbird Cake in 1978 and they say it has become the most requested recipe in their history.  I don't know where I have been all those years, since I didn't know of this cake recipe!  It sounds perfectly delicious, so I'll be planning to try it out real soon!

Southern Living shared Six Ways with Hummingbird Cake, featuring the original 1978 Hummingbird Cake recipe, along with lightened and simple variations for hummingbird cake recipes with their updated take on the original recipe.

Doesn't this Hummingbird Cake look delicious!  I could almost lick my computer screen!  I sure would like a piece, or two, of that right now!  You can get the recipe here.

I also wanted to send out big 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' wishes to my Mother-in-law,
with much love, and many hugs and kisses.
She had a birthday this week, and I know she loves Hummingbirds too, so this post is dedicated to her in honor of her birthday!
